SUMMARY:Masseria Specula\, Manduria\, Puglia\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:  \nJust 1/2 a mile away from the glorious Ionian Sea\, carved into a gentle hillside\, lies a historical farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and renovated into a tranquil retreat. Masseria Specula rests with 20 hectares (50 acres) of private land ideally situated in Manduria\, on the Ionian coast between Taranto and Gallipoli\, in the central region of Puglia\, Italy.  The masseria is nestled in nature\, the Ionian Sea visible in the distance and a 15 minute walk away. There are plenty of outdoor and indoor spaces to relax in at the Masseria\, including a first floor sea view terrace and gardens on the property. The property has been built with sustainability as a priority\, including being solar powered\, and relying on natural fibers and materials in the construction and style of the Masseria inside and out. The rooms are airy\, bright\, clean and accented with locally sourced furniture\, pottery and glassware\, and all have a private bathroom. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nThree Puglian women are at the helm in the cucina\, sharing authentic Italian recipes and meals that have been taught to them by their mothers. There will be an emphasis on fresh locally sourced fruits and vegetables\, homemade pastas\, breads\, and dishes unique to Puglia. We will enjoy breakfast and dinner at the Masseria allowing freedom to catch lunch as we are out and about exploring this fascinating part of Italy.  One of the reasons I chose the Masseria as our venue is its ideal location in central Puglia\, allowing for me to organize a few excursions to places of interest in the region. Manduria is known as the “city of the Messapi” and is one of the oldest towns in Puglia with a treasure trove of ancient Messapian sites (dating back to the Iron age) including an archeological park to explore\, churches dating back to the 11th & 12th centuries\, a castle (of course) and much more. I will be organizing a day trip to Lecce and another day trip tbd\, a guided hike in Porto Selvaggio\, a cooking class with our chefs and other options should you be inspired to join. \n  \n \n  \n  \n \n  \nWe will practice yoga every morning\, with an afternoon practice 3 times during the week. There is a lovely indoor shala and if the weather is good\, also an outdoor terrace for us to make use of. Masseria Specula has yoga mats\, blocks\, straps and bolsters for us to use\, so no need to bring your mat unless you want to.  Classes will be accessible to all with an emphasis on modifying as needed and scaling it up or down to suit your needs. There is always a wide variety of practitioners with different physical challenges\, agility abilities and every other imaginable permutation and Claire is all about yoga being an inclusive\, available-to-all practice. Massages can be arranged on site\, laundry services are available\, every room is equipped with AC & heating\, a hairdryer and handmade soaps and shampoo. Airport transfers are available from Brindisi (closest airport)\, and Bari which I will coordinate. DESCRIPTION:A former cistercian monastery\, in the heart of Verdon national park\, Monastère de Ségriès has been carefully converted into a charming guesthouse just 6km from Moustiers-Ste-Marie in Haute-Provence\, France. The monastery is situated on 8 hectares in the heart of Verdon regional park with Lake Ste-Croix and the Verdon Gorges\, \n \nthe largest canyon in Europe. The Monastery’s cloister with its fountain\, the garden with century old trees\, vegetable garden and heated swimming pool as well as several lounges\, rooms and a chapel all create a calm\, tranquil\, relaxing and conducive setting for our retreat offering a beautiful indoor space fully stocked with yoga props as wel \nl as many outdoor options in favourable weather. The monastery is close to Moustiers-Ste-Marie\, which has been listed since 1983 as one of the most beautiful villages in France and is world famous for its “Faïence”\, traditional Provencal pottery\, 45 minutes from Manosque and 75 minutes from Aix-en-Provence. \n \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nChef Christophe is at the helm in the kitchen\, creatively blending mediterranean flavours while sourcing the majority of fruits\, vegetables and herbs from the monastery garden as well as prioritising short supply chains. He is happy to accommodate special dietary needs as well as vegetarian options. We will enjoy three meals daily in the spacious dining room overlooking the magnificent trees on the esplanade or in one of the beautiful shaded outdoor terraces in fine weather. As always\, I will organize some excursions for those who wish to explore some places of interest like Moustiers Ste Marie\, founded in the 5th century and Riez la Romaine with its Roman and medieval ruins and lively markets. Additionally there are several hiking and biking (bikes are available to borrow) trails that begin from or near the monastery from which to explore stunning natural beauty. There are many activities available nearby including watersports on Lake Ste-Croix\, paragliding (!) and horseriding. Massages are also available on site.
